New Cambridgeshire Community offers buyers value for money

House prices in Cambridge are rising faster than anywhere else in the UK and by expanding their search to a blossoming new community buyers could beat further increases.

The new neighbourhood at Alconbury Weald is taking shape around 20 miles from the city centre.

The flagship scheme, overseen by Urban&Civic, will eventually provide thousands of homes, jobs and hundreds of acres of green space, plus a host of community facilities.

Work on the 200 Redrow homes at Alconbury Weald is progressing well and the first residents have now moved in.

Current prices start from £402,950 for a four-bedroom detached Redrow home. This compares favourably to the nearby city where according to the ONS the average price rose by 16.4% to reach an average of £461,890.

Tonia Tyler, sales director for Redrow Homes (South Midlands), said:

“House prices in Cambridge have risen at a phenomenal rate over the past year and this is encouraging buyers to think differently about their housing options. Alconbury Weald offers a great alternative, as not only are prices here competitive, it gives buyers the chance to be part of a blossoming new community where they can live and work.

“What sets it apart is that many of the community facilities buyers want, need and expect are already in place where as usually they develop over time as the neighbourhood grows. We recently welcomed our first homeowners who are embracing life in the new neighbourhood.  Their children can attend the primary school here, they can work out in the gym, enjoy a bite to eat in the café and stock up on essentials in the shop. Those who buy now, while the overall neighbourhood is still in its early stages, could find that they have future proofed themselves as it’s possible, given the latest figures, that as the development progresses prices will rise further.”

Alconbury Weald includes business space at the Enterprise Campus, plus there are plans for secondary and special schools, along with a Skills Centre and health centre.

The A1M and A14 are easily accessible, making it a great base for those who work in Peterborough, Cambridge, Northampton or London. Huntingdon station is just a short journey away, offering journey times of under an hour to the capital. Plans for Alconbury Weald’s very own station, mean commuting will become even easier in future.

To help make moving simple, Redrow is offering to help homeowners sell up with its Mastermove service.

To find out more and explore the new community, visit Alconbury Weald, where the Redrow show homes are open Thursday to Monday from 10am to 5.30pm.
