Walk on the Weald

Residents, businesses and children at Ermine Street Church Academy (ESCA) are being encouraged to take up Alconbury Weald’s walking challenge in May to support an active lifestyle, connect with nature and raise money for Magpas Air Ambulance.

Those taking up the challenge to Walk on the Weald are being encouraged to cover 100km throughout the month, equivalent to around 3.23km a day, to raise money for the life-saving charity based at Alconbury Weald and be in with a chance of winning a prize!

You can enter as an individual or form a team with family, friends, neighbours or colleagues.

Ideas to increase your steps

There are lots of ways to reach your target, including:

• Smart Journeys will be leading a walk from the Co-op at 1pm on Thursdays during May.
• Alconbury Weald walking group meets outside Swynford Stores at 12.30pm on Mondays (excluding Bank Holidays) and 7pm on Thursdays.
• Join a fitness class in The Pavilion
• Play tennis at the MUGA (nets are available to borrow – call 01480 413141)
• Instead of sitting around a desk, take walking meetings.
• Walk for nursery/school drop off and pick up.
• Walking as part of your commute: if you drive or catch the bus, park further away or get off at an earlier stop.
• Go for a walk on your lunch break
• Walk to the local shops
• Take your dog for an extra walk
• Doing household chores.

How to keep track

Every week you can email in your progress each week to alconburyweald@smartjourneys.co.uk. The team will be updating the leader board, which will be available on smart journeys’ social media.
