Planning application approved for first of Mid-Tech Cluster
- 01.07.2016
Alconbury Weald Enterprise Campus has achieved another significant milestone after receiving planning permission from Huntingdonshire District Council for its first Mid-Tech building. Site developer and owner Urban&Civic is now hoping to attract a new tenant looking for a flexible business solution in a great location.
Located within the Enterprise Campus, adjacent to the award-winning Incubator and recently completed Club, the Mid-Tech building will offer its new occupier high quality, flexible office space, research & development and production capacity all under one roof. The building will be the first in a planned cluster, which will be part of the growing R&D and manufacturing community at the Government-backed Enterprise Zone.
Tim Leathes, Development Director at Urban&Civic said: “The Mid Tech Cluster is an exciting development at the heart of the Campus’ first phase. Our cost-effective and flexible design enables occupiers to bring offices, research areas and specialised equipment into one place, alongside manufacturing and engineering operations. This makes effective and efficient use of this well-connected site, at the same time as delivering a building with strong design and attractive setting to make it a great place for companies to grow.”
The building, which will sit at the centre of the Mid-Tech crescent and will be a focal point of the Mid-Tech cluster, will both respect and enhance the setting of the retained World War II Watch Tower. By integrating the employment and residential zones within Alconbury Weald, the Mid-Tech buildings will make a positive contribution to the life and variety of activities for the local community, providing a healthy work-life balance.
Councillor Roger Harrison, portfolio holder for Economic Development at Huntingdonshire District Council said: “The Campus at Alconbury Weald will play an important role not only in Huntingdonshire’s future economic growth but in that of the wider Cambridgeshire area by providing a unique opportunity for businesses looking to grow and expand their operations.”
Located in one of the most well-connected locations in the country, the Campus also benefits from close proximity to significant business and technology hubs. As a Government backed Enterprise Zone, businesses will enjoy a range of benefits including 100% business rates discount and superfast broadband.
With a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’ and EPC rating of ‘A’, Urban&Civic’s sustainable design approach allows the future occupier of the first Mid Tech building to generate energy through photovoltaic panels in the roof and adopt grey water recycling for landscape and toilet flushing. Cycle racks and onsite showers/changing facilities are also included to encourage green transport via a network of safe cycle routes.
Alconbury Enterprise Campus is being championed as a green, low-carbon platform and, with plans for 100% green energy production on the site over the course of its development, the Campus will showcase new technologies across the region and around the world.
