Springing into a new arts season

‘The Library Presents’ recently launched its Spring events programme, which brings high quality, affordable arts activities, performances and workshops into the heart of towns and villages across Cambridgeshire.  With creative workshops, music and storytelling, theatre and comedy shows, and circus and puppetry extravaganzas - whatever your age and interests - there is something for everybody.

Sponsored by Urban&Civic, The Library Presents is bringing a diverse range of activities to Huntingdon library for local residents to enjoy.  This includes a willow sculpture workshop (14 March), a fused glass workshop (18 April), the Improvised Book Club (24 April) and First Person theatre and workshop (20 June).

The fused glass workshop, led by June Massey, a member of the Creative Glass Guild gives an insight into the history of glassware and explores the properties of glass as participants learn and develop their skills through experimenting with the different techniques used in making fused glass.

Back for a second season, The Improvised Book Club performs a brilliantly clever and funny improvised comedy night themed around books and audience anecdotes. Each show is completely unique and created on the spot.

Finally, you can join Zest Theatre as it presents First Person, a quirky fusion of fast-paced narrative, physical theatre and silent disco technology.  Grab your headphones, predict your winner and follow your chosen performer, cheering them on, around the library as they race through this imaginary game to the finish line. The morning performance is followed by a workshop and a creative, drama-based task so participants can make their own work in response to the piece.

Councillor Steve Criswell, Cambridgeshire County Council’s Chair of Communities and Partnership Committee said: "The last season of The Library Presents was a standout success, we reached more of our local community than ever before and hosted spectacular and varied performances across our libraries. We are passionate about showcasing high quality arts in an affordable way, using more than 75% of our Cambridgeshire library network, and further highlighting the many different ways that the spaces can be used to explore and broaden our minds. Rebecca Britton, Communities and Partnerships for Alconbury Weald, said: “We are very excited to be sponsoring this season’s events.  There’s a diverse range of creative events taking place in libraries across Cambridgeshire and we hope our residents will support many of these, especially those in Huntingdon, which is just a short bus ride away.  In the meantime, work is progressing well with the temporary library in the refurbished Watch Office at Alconbury Weald.  This includes a great space for community activities and events that we hope will host some of the events in future seasons of The Library Presents.”
