Record numbers enjoy Alconbury Weald Food Festival
More than 2,500 people attended Alconbury Weald’s annual Food Festival this year, making it the biggest and most successful event in the festival’s history.
Held on Watch Office Green, the event welcomed residents and visitors from across the region for a day of food, entertainment and community spirit. A diverse selection of food trucks and artisan stalls were joined by a barbecue hosted by The Watch Office Bar & Kitchen.
Popular vendors including Buffalo Joe’s, Sebshimi and Azahar Artisan Spanish Food were kept busy with many traders selling out – reflecting the record attendance and the popularity of the festival’s food and drink offering.
Visitors also enjoyed a packed programme of entertainment. The live music started with a performance from the Ermine Street Church Academy choir, followed by resident band The Weald Thing, who got toes tapping and provided the soundtrack to a sunny afternoon of festivities.
Children were kept entertained with face paint, glitter tattoos and a range of activities provided by Huntingdonshire District Council's Active Lifestyles Team, including soft archery, cornhole and giant Connect Four.
Families brought camping chairs and picnic rugs and settled in for the afternoon, while a cricket match on the pitch opposite provided an additional attraction for sports fans.
One of the day's highlights was a much-anticipated flypast by the Dakota aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Having flown over Buckingham Palace earlier in the day as part of the King's Birthday celebrations, the aircraft then made a couple of passes over Alconbury Weald, much to the delight of the crowd.
“This was our fifth Food Festival, and it gets bigger and better every year. It was great to welcome back some familiar favourites and introduce new vendors, bringing even more choice and flavours to enjoy. With live music, entertainment and activities alongside the food trucks and market stalls, it was wonderful to see families and friends settling in for the afternoon and making the most of the sunshine and the fantastic community atmosphere.”
Alconbury Weald’s Food Festival was organised by Alconbury Weald Community Association and Urban&Civic in partnership with Off The Beaten Truck and sponsored by Redrow.
“It was fantastic to see so many people come along to make this year’s Food Festival our busiest and most successful event to date.
“We’d like to thank everyone who helped make the day so special — from the food trucks organised by Off The Beaten Truck and the excellent stallholders, to the event’s main sponsor Redrow, Natalie and the team at Urban&Civic, and our dedicated volunteers. Most importantly, thank you to all the residents, families, friends and visitors from Alconbury Weald and beyond who helped create such an incredible atmosphere.
“We’re proud to represent such a vibrant and supportive community and were delighted to raise more than £600 for the Community Association on the day. We are already looking forward to our next big event - the community fun day that will take place alongside the Heritage Open Day on Saturday, 12 September.”
