Movie fans enjoy classic 80s hit under the stars at Alconbury Weald

Over 100 people enjoyed an evening of cinematic magic under the stars on Watch Office Green, at the heart of Alconbury Weald’s growing community, on 17 September.  The evening started with live music provided by local singer Will Robert, whilst many people relaxed with a food and drink from Bohemia on the Watch Office terrace or sampled some of the culinary delights from Vonnie’s Balkan Express food van before the main event.

Cinemagoers then settled into their seats, snuggled under blankets and sleeping bags, and waited for the opening credits to roll under the clear Autumn sky. Top Gun was the perfect choice for a Friday evening movie on the former airfield, with some enjoying the nostalgia of this classic 80s hit, while others experienced the action on the big screen for the first time.

Urban&Civic teamed up with The Star and Mouse Picture Show to bring this original and vibrant cinema experience to Alconbury Weald, and the headphones provided ensured ticket holders could enjoy the film without disturbing neighbours and diners at Bohemia.

Natalie Leigh-Brown from Urban&Civic said: “Following our Heritage Open Day the previous weekend, it was great to continue the vintage feel with Tom Cruise playing the 1980s American flying ace in classic action-drama Top Gun.  It was great to see residents joined by friends, family and neighbours. Everyone had a fantastic evening and we’re already starting to make plans for our next community event.”
