Community enjoys active start to 2022

The opportunity to enjoy a healthy lifestyle is embedded in the design principles of Alconbury Weald, and over 70 residents took advantage of the free sports and activity classes available at this year’s Community Activity Day to try out different ways to be more active in 2022.

Alconbury Weald’s first purpose-built community centre, The Pavilion, played host to an action-packed programme of activities. The day started off with a Bollywood-inspired dance fitness class that combined dynamic choreography with music from around the world.

Other cardio workouts took place later in the day, including circuits, kettlebells and BOUNCE, a mini trampoline workout.  There was also something for those wanting a slightly gentler pace, with yoga and a RightStart class, for older people and those requiring additional support to exercise. The class combined a mix of seated and standing exercises to target and improve mobility, balance and flexibility.

There was plenty to keep the children active and entertained, with an Amazing Kids soft obstacle course in the morning and a Stars on Stage modern dance session in the afternoon. There was even something for the youngest residents, with Basking Babies enjoying massage, reflexology and yoga with their parents.

Natalie Leigh-Brown, Community Lead for Alconbury Weald, said: “There was a fantastic atmosphere at the Community Activity Day, and it was great to see so many people throwing themselves into new activities with such gusto. I particularly enjoyed the Bollywood dance fitness session and mini trampolines, and seeing people having so much fun while exercising.

“I’d like to thank all the instructors who ran the sessions and gave up their time for free in order to introduce the community to some of the classes taking place at The Pavilion this year.”
