With the Summer Reading Challenge, which encourages children to discover the joy of reading for pleasure, proving popular at Alconbury Weald during the holidays, Campus-based company MM Flower has made a generous donation to Ermine Street Church Academy (ESCA).

The books donated, which include children’s classics such as the Chronicles of Narnia, The Secret Garden and Charlotte’s Web as well as more recent bestsellers, have been added to the school’s library for the start of the new school year; for the children to read as part of lessons or to borrow and enjoy at home.

In addition to the books, MM Flower, which supplies fresh cut flowers from all over the world to leading UK and European retailers, presented the co-headteachers of the primary school with two exquisite bouquets.

Phil Whelan, MD of MM Flowers, said: “As a community-based business, with many employees based locally, supporting good causes in the area is important to us. We’re delighted to have donated these books to Ermine Street Church Academy, which include books we enjoyed reading as children.

“Given our specialism in flowers, we also wanted to present the co-headteachers of the primary school with a bouquet each as a sign of our appreciation for the amazing job they are doing inspiring young minds and encouraging a lifetime love of reading.”

Rachel Arnold, Communities and Partnerships for Urban&Civic at Alconbury Weald, said: “There’s a strong link between the business and residential community at Alconbury Weald and we’re delighted that MM Flowers was able to respond to ESCA’s appeal for book donations and the bouquets were a really lovely gesture for Emma and Ayelett who have done a fantastic job since taking on the roles of co-headteachers earlier in the year.”
