Do you want to build a scarecrow? Take part in Alconbury Weald’s first Scarecrow Festival!

Following the success of the Open Garden’s event over the Jubilee weekend, Alconbury Weald Community Association is gearing up for its first ever Scarecrow Festival, from 16 September 2022.

Whether you want to build a scarecrow by yourself, with a friend or as a family team, you can let your imagination run wild and create a friendly character, or something that will definitely scare the birds away!

Event details:

• As soon as possible: let us know if you are planning to enter so we can make sure we order enough straw. Email info@alconbury-weald.co.uk
• From 16 September: collect straw from the Pavilion (along with basic instructions on how to build a scarecrow).  Please make sure you have collected your straw by midday on 22 September.
• W/c 19 September: build your scarecrow, put it on display in your front garden or balcony and register your entry by emailing your name, age (if 12 or under), address, your scarecrow’s name/description and a photo.
• 23-30 September: Scarecrow  hunt opens.
• Saturday, 1 October: prizegiving and social from 5pm on Ermine Street Church Academy plaza, with food trucks and mobile bar.

We’ll be celebrating the end of the Scarecrow Festival in style, with food trucks and a mobile bar on the school plaza and prizes presented to the best under 12s entry, silliest scarecrow, best effort and favourite.  Judging will be done by members of Alconbury Weald’s Community Association, whose decision is final.
