GO RIDE on the Weald

Potential young Bradley Wiggins and Laura Trotts from St Ives and other local cycling clubs took part in Go Ride Racing on the runway of the former airfield at Alconbury Weald last week.

The vast expanse of the runway provides the perfect venue with plenty of open space to get up to speed in a safe traffic-free environment.  The former airfield has been put to good use by the young cyclists for one evening a week for the past five weeks for coaching sessions run by St Ives Cycling Club in conjunction with Go-Ride, British Cycling’s development programme for young people. The final session last Tuesday provided them with the chance to put their new skills into action. St Ives Cycling Club plan to make the most of this facility and run similar sessions in the future.
