Providing links between jobseekers and employers in Huntingdonshire

Over 80 jobseekers attended EDGE’s careers event in July 2016 to find out more about local jobs and apprenticeships in a range of sectors including construction, engineering, care, catering, finance, education and retail.

The Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair was organised with St Neots Learning Partnership, who wanted to show recent school leavers the range of career opportunities available in the area. EDGE is a jobs and skills partnership that works with Alconbury Enterprise Campus and businesses in the region to help local people find work and businesses recruit and develop staff.

Companies exhibiting at the Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair in St Neots included the Army, Breheny Civil Engineering, George Hay Chartered, Huntingdonshire District Council, MiHome and Mears Care and RWE Generation. Huntingdonshire Regional College, College of Animal Welfare and West Anglia Training Association (WATA) were also at the Fair to provide training and careers advice.

Christina Jolley from WATA said:  “The Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair at St Neots was a great event, our Formula One traineeship was really well received and we talked to lots of students - boys and girls - interested in our traineeship programmes in engineering and construction.  We are currently following up queries and requests for information and believe the event has helped provide useful links between jobseekers and employers."

Breheny Civil Engineering attended the St Neots careers fair to promote six new apprenticeship positions it has starting in September.  Staff at the event met with a number of potential apprenticeship candidates as well as a jobseeker that will be invited to interview shortly and, if successful, will be offered a traineeship with the Company.

EDGE’s next careers event will be the annual Careers Fair at Wood Green Animal Shelter in Huntingdon, which is an opportunity for local businesses to showcase their career opportunities and inspire the next generation of workers.
