‘Have a Go’ at Alconbury Weald’s Festival of Learning in June

The Festival of Learning is the biggest celebration of lifelong learning in England and Alconbury Weald alongside EDGE, Huntingdon’s jobs and skills partnership, are hosting ‘have a go’ events throughout June to showcase some of the learning opportunities available locally, encouraging adults to try something new.

Learning is a great way to develop skills, boost self-confidence and discover new talents. The Festival will host a variety of events to inspire the local community of Alconbury Weald and the surrounding area to ‘have a go’ at new skills in a friendly environment.

The Festival of Learning will include:

  • EDGE workshops and business clinics for people interested in refreshing their CV, honing their interview techniques and building their confidence.
  • Sport and fitness sessions with table tennis, boot camps, boxing fitness and spinning.
  • Creative workshops including 3D printing demonstration, lampshade making and a cookery demonstration.

There will also be opportunities to find out more about Alconbury Weald’s history, with presentations on the site’s history and a tour of the nuclear bunker - and its future, with events including the launch of the new skills centre iMET (15 June), talks and walks about the landscape design and water engineering for the new development and a tour of MMUK.

Community-focused activities at Alconbury Weald, enjoying the perfect setting for the festivities, include International Picnic Day (18 June) and the Ermine Street Church Academy annual Summer fete (29 June).

Torie Denny-Morley, Skills Lead for Urban&Civic, said: “With over 8,000 jobs coming up at Alconbury Campus, learning and skills development is a core priority and during the Festival of Learning we want to demonstrate the positive impact of lifelong learning and encourage more adults to see that it isn’t too late to learn new, potentially life changing skills.

“It’s also a fantastic way for the local community to find out more about the new neighbourhood at Alconbury Weald and meet new people whilst participating in fun and informative events.”

The majority of the events are free. Two have a small cost as indicated in the full programme of events. You can download the full list of events here.
