First phase forward at Alconbury Weald

Following the signing of the Section 106 Legal Agreement which gives the green light to the continued transformation of the former airfield into Alconbury Weald, Urban&Civic are holding a series of public events to define the first phase of development.

This phase will include some 880 dwellings and 80,000 square metres of commercial floor space with supporting green space and community facilities including a primary school. There will be a chance for members of the public to have a look at the design and infrastructure to support that work phase and to talk with the development team at two public events later this month. Project Director Tim Leathes said: “This is an exciting time for the project as we move from the planning stage to delivery.  We already have construction work on site to develop the next 70 acres of the Enterprise Campus. Now we are able to progress the first residential and community areas which will make Alconbury Weald a great place to both live and work.”

On Friday 24 October the project team from Cambridgeshire County Council and Morgan Sindall will be presenting the early designs for the Weald’s first Primary School and will be available for discussion.

Emma Grant, Design Manager at Morgan Sindall, said:

"The Primary School will be a focal point within the Alconbury Weald community and we are really proud and excited about the emerging designs. We are very keen to share our work undertaken to date and, importantly, to listen to views from local people as we further develop the right design for this flagship development."

Following the public events, a detailed application for the infrastructure is due to be submitted in November, followed by applications for the first housing early in 2015. All applications for the Weald will now come forward within the parameters, conditions and site-wide strategies agreed as part of the Outline Application process.
