Children help plant trees to support local charity
- 02.12.2024
Five enthusiastic pupils from Ermine Street Church Academy (ESCA) recently helped plant 60 trees at Magpas Air Ambulance’s headquarters at Alconbury Weald. The trees will form part of the boundary for a new garden; a sanctuary designed to support clinicians, patients and their families’ seeking moments of respite in the fresh air.
Some of the children chosen to take part in the tree planting have been independently fundraising for the life-saving charity. To thank them for their efforts, they were given a tour of the helicopter and talked to the pilots and Magpas Air Ambulance team about some of their recent missions.
“It was lovely to meet these amazing young people, whose energy and commitment to support our work is truly inspiring. This garden will be a place of healing and reflection, and they’ve played a vital role in its creation.”
The trees, which include field maple and a variety of dog rose, rose wood and hawthorn, were donated by Alconbury Weald master developer Urban&Civic and planted during National Tree Week. The new trees planted at Magpas Air Ambulance takes the number of trees planted at Alconbury Weald to over 37,500.
“It has been a real treat to spend some time at Magpas Air Ambulance; seeing their amazing facility, chatting to some of their team and helping with the tree planting. It's been lovely to see the children’s excitement and enthusiasm for this project.”
The tree planting marks an important step in creating a peaceful green space that will grow and thrive for years to come.
