Starting flag for British Cycling race at Alconbury Weald

The Club at Alconbury Weald is acting as race headquarters again this year for St Ives Cycling Club’s Summer Road Race. The event, which will take place on Sunday, 14 August 2022 is part of British Cycling’s Eastern Road Race League and will see elite cyclists from across the region compete for the first place and to beat their Personal Best times.

Cyclists will take on the 70-mile race around the ‘Monks Wood’ course, with the men’s race scheduled to start at 9am and the women’s race at 2pm. The Boulevard will experience a brief ‘road closure’ at the start of each race, as the cyclists head out of Alconbury Weald. The men's race will set off at 9am and the women's race at 2pm when there will be a closure for around 5 minutes. The Swynford Store entrance to Alconbury Weald is not affected.

Rachel Arnold, Communications, Communities and Partnerships for Urban&Civic, said: “Sustainable travel is at the heart of Alconbury Weald’s design, and the gentle landscape around Alconbury Weald makes it an ideal location for cycling. We’re delighted to be able to support St Ives Cycling Club again this year and it's fascinating to watch the beginning of the race, which is carefully choreographed by the event organisers to ensure a safe and speedy departure for everyone taking part.

“We wanted to make sure people affected are aware of the planned activity and the brief Boulevard closures and apologise for any disruption caused by the event.”
